Since the 1920’s Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association and Cheltenham Animal Shelter have been rescuing and re-homing domestic pets throughout Gloucestershire.
The charity is currently caring for 44 dogs, 23 cats, 8 rabbits and 7 guinea pigs. Of the 44 dogs currently in their care, 16 are Staffordshire Bull Terriers (SBT). It is not unusual for SBT’s to make up over 50% of the dog numbers.
The charity recognises that unwanted Staffordshire Bull Terriers is a nationwide problem and so have decided to tackle to problem head on – prevention is better than cure! Not only will the charity continue to rescue and re-home the misunderstood breed but they will also help lower the numbers of unwanted pups being born to try and break the cycle.
Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association and Cheltenham Animal Shelter will be offering a free neutering service to Staffordshire Bull Terriers for a trial period. The offer is available all SBT’s, male and female who are under the age of 1 year and who’s owners reside in the county of Gloucestershire.
For more information or to book a pre-op assessment then please call 01242 523521.

teacake2012We would like to say a huge thank you to all of you that came along and supported the Cheltenham Animal Shelter Tea Party event last Saturday.

Thank you also to those of you that supplied the event with a delicious assortment of cakes. It was very much appreciated. I am pretty certain that a lot of New Year diets were put on hold that day!

The event was rather well attended and raised a fantastic £264.11 for the charity!

A special thank you goes to Lorraine Thorne and Carol Lewis for organizing another successful event.

Dear Supporter,
Cheltenham Animal Shelter is currently caring for 39 dogs, 37 cats, 8 rabbits and 1 guinea pig.
We have a large number of black and black and white cats in our care at the moment that we are struggling to find homes for. Black cats are often overlooked by would-be adopters and many of them remain in our care for longer than others. Over 50 per cent of the cats in our care are black or black and white! The question is why are they the less preferred colour? Superstition? Not so pretty? Not so striking? Whatever the reason, I can assure you that we have the most adorable and friendly cats in a variety of colours all awaiting a new loving home. Please take a look at our re-homing pages and see for yourself: www.gawa.org.uk/rehoming/cats
We are delighted with the booking that we have received for the Christmas Fair and Car boot! There are limited spaces left so don’t miss out! We hope to see you there.

Open Day Success

We would like to express our gratitude to all of those that attended and helped out at Cheltenham Animal Shelter’s Open Day on the 9th July.

Despite the rather drawn out torrential down pour and an attack from a large swarm of bees the event still managed to raise a fantastic £2228!

Several of the animals available for adoption were subsequently booked after the event and most importantly our profile has been raised. This will help expand our supporters' database and allow us re-home animals long into the future.

Thank you once again for your support – let’s see if we can make it even bigger and better next year. I’m sure that it will come around quickly!
